The SECTRACE project has significantly advanced the European landscape of secure and interoperable standards for Digital Product Passports (DPPs), aligning with the EU’s sustainability and digital transformation goals. By addressing gaps in blockchain interoperability and data governance, the project has contributed to the European Commission's Rolling Plan for ICT Standardisation, specifically in blockchain, cybersecurity, and circular economy principles. Through its fellowship activities, SECTRACE provided essential contributions to the W3C Distributed Tracing Working Group, helping shape secure and scalable tracing standards. These efforts have positioned the SDO as a global leader in creating interoperable frameworks for DPPs, ensuring that traceability systems can seamlessly exchange data while maintaining compliance with GDPR and other regulations. The project also addressed challenges in fragmented blockchain ecosystems by developing open-source tools to enable vendor-neutral, interoperable tracing solutions. This will spur further innovation across industries, reduced barriers to adopting DPPs, and aligned traceability solutions with the EU’s Green Deal and Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation.

Bio
Soumya Kanti Datta is the Founder and CEO of Digiotouch in Estonia and France. He has 12+ years of R&D and business development experience in AI, Cloud Computing, and Cybersecurity. He has contributed to the technical excellence of several Horizon Europe, H2020, and French national (FUI and ANR) projects. He has published more than 90 research papers in IEEE and ACM conferences, magazines, and journals. His research papers have been cited 4613+ times and he has h-index 34. Soumya is a Senior Member of the IEEE and has received awards from IEEE for research and leadership in the IoT. Previously he also performed technology transfer to two French SMEs Mios and SunPartner which showcased the delivered technical innovation in Mobile World Congress 2015. Currently, he is an external reviewer for EU H2020 projects. He has delivered many Keynote and Industrial Talks at international technical and business conferences. He has been actively contributing to the Standard Development Organisations, notably to the W3C Web of Things Working Groups leading to standardisation of WoT architecture and Things Description. Soumya graduated with an M.Sc. in Communications and Computer Security from Telecom ParisTech, France and undertook Executive Education on XR from MIT Sloan School of Management.
