Improving the interface between research and standardisation: Examples from Blockchain research

to
alt

Exploiting the opportunities of synergies between research and standardisation has been neglected for a long time. However, standardisation and standards can not only help to exploit and disseminate the results of research projects, but even contribute to their general success and wider impact. After a general introduction into the complex relation between research and standardisation, the role of standardisation in the Horizon Europe research project IMPULSE “Identity Management in PUbLic Services”, which integrated Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence to improve Electronic Identities, will be elaborated by representatives of the German standardisation body DIN. Since many research projects and consortia struggle with effectively using standardisation, a representative of the consortia, which performed the Coordination and support action (CSA) HSBooster, will share his experience in supporting blockchain related research projects in their way to standardisation. With these inputs, we want to kick-off a discussion about blockchain-specific challenges in exploiting the synergies between research and standardisation.

Who should attend?

  • Researchers active in blockchain
  • Blockchain research projects
  • Research organisations active in the area of blockchain
  • Organisations funding blockchain research
  • Policy makers responsible for initiatives in the domain of blockchain
  • Standard Development Organisations & Certification Bodies

Why Attend?

  • Understand how standardisation and standards can support research;
  • Explore what role standardisation can play in blockchain research projects;
  • Become aware what problems blockchain research projects face related to standardisation and which approaches can be applied.
